Event Details

October 1, 10 am-5 pm.

This one-day adults-only workshop is designed for beginner and intermediate silversmiths to learn how to create prong-style settings to capture cabochons, odd-shaped or irregular edge stones, and focal pieces. We will be using butane micro-torches to allow a more comfortable entry into using a torch to solder sterling silver into wearable art. If the student would like to bring their own stones to class, the only requirement is that they’re smaller than a half-dollar overall (height can be anything). Tools required for class are a Butane Micro-torch and fuel and a soft fire brick or solderite board to work on. Tools will be available for purchase at class, or you can purchase small butane torches at Lowes, Home Depot, Kitchen supply places, or Amazon. If you have jewelry pliers, hammers, and jewelry files, please bring them to reduce sharing time. Safety glasses are recommended. Please wear cotton/natural fiber clothing or bring a work apron.

Your class kit will include assorted sterling silver wire and sheet to create your setting, jump ring(s), solder, studio consumables, choice of stone, and neckwire for your finished pendant (or earwires if you choose to make earrings). The class kit is $45 (+ tax) and is payable to Brandy Boyd /BMB Designs by cash or credit card on the day of class. Additional supplies will be available for purchase if desired. Register no later than September 29. $55 MBG Members/$65 Non-Members (plus kit fee). Click here to register.
