Learn to create beautiful works of art while outside with watercolor paints in this introductory class with local Memphis artist and instructor, Barrie Foster. Every week Barrie will lead you through a new part of the Garden to paint what’s in bloom and explore. Tickets are available as single class dates or buy the series to save!
This class is adults-only, 18+, and requires a supply list. Please read through the supply list prior to purchasing your tickets. Supply brands are able to be swapped as needed but the materials should remain the same.
Barrie Foster began painting in watercolor in 1998 when she and her husband moved to a farm in Tipton County. Since that time, she has won numerous art awards both locally and nationally. She now paints in several mediums including watercolor, acrylic, oils, chalk pastels, oil pastels, charcoal, and water-soluble graphite. She has taught art in the community for more than 15 years and continues to do so throughout the Mid-South. Currently she teaches art at the VA Hospital in Memphis, to the Seniors at Creative Aging, and to the Tipton County 4 H children.

Back for another year, it’s time to bring your best buds to Flower Happy Hour at the Garden! Join us and try your hand at flower arranging with some of Memphis’ favorite florists. You’ll learn new design techniques and special tricks from local experts as you build an arrangement to take home. Each artist will focus on a different theme that centers around floral design, so attendees will have a different experience each time.
This event is for adults only 21+. Advance registration is required. Bring your own beverages & snacks to enjoy while creating! All supplies are provided, but feel free to bring your favorite snacks, small bites, and nonalcoholic beverages to your class. Cocktails, wine, and small snacks will be available for purchase in class.

Join Ms. Kristen for Caterpillar Club summer edition! You and your little one will enjoy sunny days filled with fun games, crafts, and activities designed to help you make the most of summer in your own backyard. Together, you’ll explore the wonders of nature and create memories.
Caterpillar Club is designed for parents (or grandparents, aunts, uncles, or nannies) to accompany their toddler or preschooler (ages 2-5) as they share stories, play games, create crafts, and explore the natural world. Led by Kristen Zemaitis, Youth Education Program Director, Caterpillar Club is one of the few preschool adventures in Memphis that gets your little one discovering nature, hands-on, in the great outdoors.
Caterpillar Club Summer Camp runs Monday, June 1 or July 6, through Friday, June 5 or June 6, from 10 am-12 pm.
Adventures in My Big Backyard

We’ll explore the plants and animals that call our own backyards home, digging into Wormville, buzzing through Pollinator Pass, and diving into hands-on activities, crafts, stories, and games. Calling all curious, nature-loving preschoolers! Who left that footprint? What’s that sound? Why do bees adore flowers? Spend the week sleuthing through the Garden as we crack nature’s coolest mysteries. Little detectives will dig, discover, and uncover clues all around them because every good mystery deserves a muddy answer.

Each day, campers discover new plants, colors, textures, and patterns while learning how nature shapes art. Through guided walks, observation and imaginative prompts, children create their own masterpieces from watercolor and natural dyes to clay, collage, and eco-friendly crafts. Along the way, they develop curiosity, confidence, and a deeper appreciation for the living world.
Mythbusters
Ages 6-9

In this curiosity-powered camp, young investigators put common nature myths to the test and discover the real science behind some of the garden’s most surprising stories. Each day, campers explore different parts of the garden—digging into soil mysteries, observing pollinators up close, investigating plants and learning how animals and ecosystems really work.

This week will fly by as your camper learns about all of nature’s creatures that have wings. Bees, birds, butterflies, bats OH MY! This week we will soar into crafts, games and garden exploration all focusing on all of our winged neighbors.

Calling all problem-solvers, nature lovers, and creative thinkers! Campers will explore the incredible systems that make our planet work—and design innovative solutions to protect them. Set in the living laboratory of the botanic garden, this hands-on camp blends science, engineering, and environmental stewardship.
Wildlife Safari
Ages 6-9

Adventure is closer than you think—right in our backyard and yours. At Backyard Wildlife Safari Camp, young explorers will discover the incredible creatures that live just outside their doors. From tiny insects to hopping frogs and visiting birds, campers will learn to observe, protect, and celebrate the wildlife around them.

Adventure is closer than you think—right in our backyard and yours. At Backyard Wildlife Safari Camp, young explorers will discover the incredible creatures that live just outside their doors. From tiny insects to hopping frogs and visiting birds, campers will learn to observe, protect, and celebrate the wildlife around them.

Summer fun is in full bloom at the Garden! Join us for a season of discovery, creativity, and outdoor adventures. Our nature camps are dedicated to inspiring a love for the natural world in kids of all ages. Each week, campers ages 6-12 will enjoy nature crafts, games, and explorations led by expert Garden Guides.
All camps run Monday through Friday from 9 am-3 pm.

Around the World in Five Days
Ages 6-9
June 8-12, 9 am-3 pm
Pack your imagination—this week we’re traveling the globe! Each day, campers “visit” a new part of the world through hands-on activities with garden exploration, games and art. No passports required—just curiosity and a sense of adventure!
Art in Nature
Ages 6-9
June 15-19, 9 am-3 pm
Each day, campers discover new plants, colors, textures, and patterns while learning how nature shapes art. Through guided walks, observation and imaginative prompts, children create their own masterpieces from watercolor and natural dyes to clay, collage, and eco-friendly crafts. Along the way, they develop curiosity, confidence, and a deeper appreciation for the living world.
Mythbusters
Ages 6-9
June 22-26, 9 am-3 pm
In this curiosity-powered camp, young investigators put common nature myths to the test and discover the real science behind some of the garden’s most surprising stories. Each day, campers explore different parts of the garden—digging into soil mysteries, observing pollinators up close, investigating plants and learning how animals and ecosystems really work.

Back for another year, it’s time to bring your best buds to Flower Happy Hour at the Garden! Join us and try your hand at flower arranging with some of Memphis’ favorite florists. You’ll learn new design techniques and special tricks from local experts as you build an arrangement to take home. Each artist will focus on a different theme that centers around floral design, so attendees will have a different experience each time.
This event is for adults only 21+. Advance registration is required. Bring your own beverages & snacks to enjoy while creating! All supplies are provided, but feel free to bring your favorite snacks, small bites, and nonalcoholic beverages to your class. Cocktails, wine, and small snacks will be available for purchase in class.

Instruction and outdoor learning will cover tree physiology, tree species identification, tree care, tree selection, risk management, how trees support wildlife, tree inventory, champion trees, the history of urban forestry, tree law for homeowners, and arboretum requirements. Classes are designed for the public, municipal employees, plant-related non-profits, arboretums, members of neighborhood associations, tree boards, garden clubs, and plant societies.
This class is sponsored by the West TN Chapter of the TN Urban Forestry Council, the Memphis Botanic Garden, and the Memphis Tree Board.
Your instructors for the course include:
