Janelle Lynch: Another Way of Looking at Love, an exhibition of large-format color photographs, invites viewers to contemplate the interconnectedness of all life forms. It follows the belief that in our organic and spiritual essence, we are inextricably linked to each other and to Mother Nature. We are hardwired for connection and our elemental sameness unites us and transcends our apparent differences. Another Way of Looking at Love is borne of awe for the power of nature and seeks to reimagine our connection to one another, the planet, and the generative possibilities of the moment.

Janelle Lynch made the series of photographs between the years 2015 and 2018 on her property in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York. With her 8×10-inch view camera and contemplative approach to image-making, Lynch found perspectives that enabled areas of connection among her subjects—Golden Rod and Pokeweed; Burning Bush and Pine trees. The natural geometric shapes of soft-focus are areas, according to Lynch, “where new realities can be imagined.” With the depiction of unity, together with color and light, Lynch celebrates the beauty and magic of the natural world.

Janelle Lynch: Another Way of Looking at Love includes thirteen images, from a series of twenty-five. The complete body of work was published in 2018 by Radius Books, Santa Fe, NM. Another Way of Looking at Love was shortlisted in 2019 for the Prix Pictet, the global award in photography and sustainability.

Lynch’s work is held in numerous private and public collections worldwide, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. She is represented by Flowers Gallery.
