Event Details

August 5, 10 am-5 pm.

Learn how to create and use molds to keep your metal clay work one-of-a-kind while streamlining the creative process. Attendees will learn how to use a two-part RTV compound, what makes a good mold and what doesn’t, how to prepare difficult objects for molding, and how to customize your molded piece. You will create multiple molds and ‘cast’ at least one piece for firing in class. You will go home with a fully fired, fine silver piece and several molds.

All levels are welcome, and all tools and supplies are provided with the $55 kit fee. If you have a basic metal clay kit for fine silver, please bring it. You will get to make several single-sided molds in class. One of the best parts of this class is finding and sharing unique objects to mold, so please bring things that you want to make molds of and are willing to share with the class. You can bring larger pieces that you want to pull the texture from, but for the most part, keep your items to be molded around the size of a half-dollar coin. Most people make 7-10 molds in class.

Please do not bring priceless heirlooms, other artists’ original creations, or copyrighted materials to make molds. The class kit is available for purchase from the instructor at the time of class for $55 plus tax. Cash and credit cards are accepted. The kit includes 10 grams of fine silver ACS and the two-part RTV silicon mold-making material. $60 MBG Members/$72 Non-Members (plus $55 plus tax kit fee). Click to register by August 2.
