“With paint and brush, I have been chasing Beauty for over 50 years. Mostly I work in oil on canvas and acrylic gouache on rice paper and panel. Several years ago, while visiting the de Young Museum in San Francisco, I was awed by the stunning beauty of traditional Japanese kimonos in the Museum’s collection. That encounter became a major wellspring of inspiration for me, developing into my ongoing series of paintings of flowers, kimonos, and gardens, exhibited as in a Japanese Garden. The word kimono means “something to wear.” Often I begin with the simple shape of the Japanese kimono as a structure for an image and then embellish it with line, shape, color, pattern, and themes from Nature to enrich the design and fulfill the concept of the artwork. My pursuit of Beauty continues.”
