Event Details

August 1-29. On view in the Grand Hallway. There will be a reception on August 11 from 2-4 pm.

“Welcome to my art show celebrating the “Beauty of Pointillism,” where each painting resonates with the meticulous arrangement of dots, circles and strokes. I want my paintings to evoke emotion, inspire imagination, and invite contemplation. My style of painting developed while in Fred Rawlinson’s watercolor class as we were studying various artists, not that we studied any artist of pointillism, but I was drawn there by experimenting and having some fun with “What if I try this?” It was during a critique of my first pointillism painting that Fred encouraged me to stay with this and see where it would lead me. That advice was pivotal and opened my imagination to a new world of arranging meticulous dots using vibrant colors and inviting the viewer to celebrate the beauty of pointillism. I truly hope you enjoy my paintings as much as I enjoyed painting them.”

Anna Parker Artist Bio: I grew up in a military family, born in Iwakuni, Japan, and at the age of two, moved to Palm Springs, California. Several years later we transferred to other cities before eventually making Memphis our home. Drawing was my passion and while in high school my love for painting began, which led me to being accepted into The Memphis Academy of Arts.

There I studied under Ron Pekar, Veda Reed & Dolph Smith working in acrylics, charcoal, graphite, and pen & ink. Upon completing my second year there, I transferred to Memphis State to pursue a degree in Accounting. After 31 1/2 yrs as a Treasury & Payroll Manager and raising two children with my husband Terry, I entered into a new world of watercolor with Fred Rawlinson. While in his class and exploring the various techniques and approaches to watercolor, I began to develop my own style of painting that I am forever grateful to Fred for encouraging me to continue the path that I had begun in his class. He realized before me that I was headed in a direction that would open my eyes to the wonderful world of Pointillism and vibrant colors. I hope you find enjoyment and inspiration in my show as I have been inspired by the art produced by my artist friends.
