Yearning for Spring: Recent Paintings of Dr. Gopal Murti

“I love every season in Memphis except the gloomy, sleety, and bitterly cold winter. So, to cheer up myself and my viewers during inclement weather, I paint subjects that depict beautiful and cheerful scenes. The current show features paintings of pretty flowers, sailboats, beach scenes, and other happy subjects. I use different media and styles and the expertise I acquired while training with the renowned Tennessee artist, Fred Rawlinson.  For most of my professional career, I worked as a scientist at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and as an adjunct Professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. I worked with sophisticated imaging technologies that use microscopes, lasers, and microprocessors to study the architecture of molecules, viruses, bacteria, cells, and tissues. The images I produced garnered National and International awards including the prestigious Nikon International small–world competition. As an artist, I was selected in many juried art shows at the local and National level, received multiple awards, and held numerous solo shows.
