“Dr. Susan Elswick – I am a therapist and professor by trade but find great value in exploring the intersectionality of art and mental health programming. I often incorporate art-based activities into my professional work to engage clients in the process of self-exploration, healing, and self-care. I am greatly inspired by the beauty of local landscapes within our region and attempt to capture it through my artwork. By tapping into the concept of self-care and personal wellness, I spend time in nature and utilizing the mediums of watercolor and acrylic. The art in this collection entitled, Scenic Narratives: The Art of Landscape, is representative of the places I have lived over my lifetime. From the salt marshes in South Carolina to the rolling hills of East Tennessee, I enjoy the specific challenges that landscapes offer as a subject matter. I hope to someday be able to convey the sense of quiet transcendence and calm healing that I find in my relationship with nature and the process of artistic expression.”
