Scary Fairy Houses with Becky Zee

October 13, 2024 1-4 pm

For this holiday class we will be making fairy houses with a creepy twist – they’ll be delightfully SCARY! Becky Zee will be using special black-firing clay for this class so be sure to wear clothes that wouldn’t mind a smudge or two. She will teach you the basics of ceramic work (pinch pot and slab construction) as you build the foundation, and then you will learn how to fashion windows and doors, add a chimney, create ghosts and pumpkins, and make any other spooky stuff you desire. After you are done, you’ll be provided with a seasonally scary assortment of clay paints to accent your house with. 

All skill levels are welcome. Children 14 years old and above are welcome with an adult present. Finished fairy houses will be fired off-site and brought back to the Memphis Botanic Garden for pickup two weeks after the class, complete with weatherproof rope and assembly instructions. Class fee includes all supplies and tools needed. All you need to bring is your imagination!

Things to know: 

• Children 14 years old and above are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.
• The finished pieces will be returned to MBG for pickup after two weeks and attendees will be notified by the instructor. 
• Please make sure to wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty with clay or paint.
