“Kristi Duckworth is an artist and teacher working in Memphis, TN, for the last 35 years. Originally from Little Rock, Arkansas, Kristi grew up in the backwoods of Bryant, Arkansas, exploring nature and doing art from early childhood; her adolescent adventures found her
constantly drawing, painting, taking pictures, digging up plants, making mud pies, fishing, and rock collecting in the same light as she does today.
Kristi majored in graphic design at the University of Memphis but gravitated towards the more hands-on mediums of pottery and mosaics after technology took over in graphic art. Maintaining a studio practice throughout her career, she shares her love of art and nature with people of all ages through public art, Hutchison Center for Excellence (after-school and summer camps), Creative Aging, Memphis Kids in Nature and pottery and mosaic classes at her own studio in the forest near Millington.
Kristi has done several large-scale public art mosaics in Memphis, including the “Stone Butterfly” patio and “Seedling Circle” mosaics in My Big Backyard at the Memphis Botanic Garden, the “Tree of Life” in the Cancer Survivors Park, and “Terrarium Orbis” at White Station Middle School. Kristi is deeply inspired by nature and community and is currently partnering with Jonathan Reid on a mosaic sculpture through the UrbanArt Commission for Alonzo Weaver Park.
Kristi is deeply inspired by nature and community. She pays homage to nature by painting special places, flora, and fauna and doing nature-inspired pottery and mosaics. She also leads outdoor gardening, camping, hiking, foraging, fishing, and paddling.”
